Between the Lines: On Time

  • Balam Balam Place 15 Phoenix Street Brunswick, Victoria, 3056 Australia (map)

Between the Lines pairs nourishing books with art making to help you slow down, tune into your inner world, and explore what arises.

This is a cosy space where you can deepen your understanding of yourself, your experiences, and the contexts that shape you.

On Time

Step beyond the Western world of clock-time to explore diverse human and more-than-human ways of understanding and experiencing time. How does our perception of time shape our attention and what we value? How does the natural world keep a record of history? What if we traced time as maps instead of clocks and calendars? How long is now? Is time money? Does time march steadily onward, or does it open to create moments of potential?

We'll hear writings from Jenny Odell, Jonathon Keats, and Daniel Stern that invite us to dwell on our own relationship with time.

What you can expect

Each session follows the same familiar structure to explore our theme, providing a variety of options for how you might choose to participate.

  • We begin with a welcome and Acknowledgement of Country

  • You’re invited to make yourself comfortable to listen as I read aloud passages connected to the theme

  • You’re invited to notice what stays with you from the reading and how these words have landed with you

  • You’re invited to creatively respond to the reading - perhaps by using art materials, or your body, or quietly sitting with and reflecting on what has stayed with you

  • We’ll come back together as a whole group with an invitation to share about your experience or creative response as the final step before we say goodbye.

I will provide the readings, a variety of art materials, tea, coffee, and biscuits.

There's nothing you need to prepare or bring, though you might like to have a water bottle or journal with you.

Please note: This workshop is an experiential learning opportunity and is not intended to provide therapy or replace therapeutic support.
