Nurturing care for when you feel like you’re drowning.
You chose to work in a helping profession because you really care about the wellbeing of others. What first felt like an exciting role now feels like a slog. Those aspects of your work that used to light you up now leave you feeling numb as you go through the motions.
Someone else calls the shots for how work is allocated, and you often have more being added to your plate than you can comfortably hold. You find yourself saying no worries, when there are, in fact, many worries.
You feel increasingly alone, frustrated, and less capable than your colleagues who seem to be coping (at least on the surface). You catch yourself second-guessing decisions you once felt confident making. What used to be a simple task now feels like an exhausting collection of steps to complete.
Most days you’re working unpaid overtime. You’re picking up extra shifts to make ends meet. You get sick whenever you feel rundown. You avoid taking sick leave as much as possible, yet your leave balance remains perilously low. You have painkillers on hand at all times - in your bag, at your desk, in your car, next to the bed…
More often than not you feel exhausted in a way that a good night’s sleep doesn’t change - and good night sleeps are few and far between.
Deciding what to eat for dinner every single night is a struggle. You’ve stopped your weekly food prep, and now your only meal plan is grabbing a handful of grated cheese each time you pass by the fridge.
You cancel plans with friends because you don’t have anything left in the tank. You find yourself snapping at loved ones because you have used up all your energy making it through the work week.
You know something needs to change, but you’re holding so much that it’s hard to even know where to begin.
If you want support to settle your own system, replenish your wellbeing, and find a way to be with your work that you can sustain over time, I’d love to help you get there.
